Letterboxing, Books, and Counting Down

I don’t have a release date for Andy Squared yet. I’m sure I won’t get that for awhile. However, I decided I would do something fun to countdown, help gain some interest in the book, and also bring to light some interest in other great books! My idea was to combine two of my favorite things (new and old) into one: creating stamps for letterboxes from the covers of some of my favorite books.

Each month I’ll plant a new box to honor one of my favorite books (and I have a lot of them!) and hopefully by the end I will be able to make a stamp for the cover of Andy Squared!

First Finders will get a copy of the book that the stamp is based on (if the book is available to me at a reasonable price, anyway, because some are out of print and hard to find).

For November I did Geography Club by Brent Hartinger. Those interested in finding the stamp can check out the clues on AtlasQuest here. I was really proud of the carve, too. It’s not 100% accurate to the cover, but that’s okay. I added my own little flair to it. What do you think?

  1. We are so excited! I ‘ve just started letter boxing with my boys 4 and 6. I’ve letter boxed before and it’s so much fun! And we are a two mom family plus that trail on Perkins is the dog park we go to all the time! We will start searching for this this weekend weather permitting. I’ll let you know how it goes.

    • Please do let me know! I hope the box is still there. I haven’t had any updates on it lately. Actually, it’s been a few months since I’ve gone letterboxing. I need to get back out there! Since the weather is FINALLY getting nice, I think I’ll go out next week during spring break!

      • We went today and had a blast! It’s exactly where you say…there is a misspelling in the clues. ..where you say there is a big three right in front of a 2 sister beech tree. We decided that by three you meant tree (at first we started looking for a 3 sister tree) Also while searching for the letterbox we kept talking about sister trees and my 4 yr old couldn’t remember what they were called and yelled to us ” Hey Mom’s where is the next girl on girl tree?” We had a good laugh!! We signed your book and put it back in the same place!

        • Thank you for letting me know about the error! I will be sure to fix that. I’m glad the box is still where I left it. I have to admit I’m sitting in the DMV right now and miserable because I’ve been here for hours. But your four year olds comment had me laughing SO HARD in the middle of a crowd. I’m still grinning. I think some people think I’m crazy! Thanks for that laugh!
