The Next Seven Days…

This week I feel like I’ve been terribly forgetful. In fact, I KNOW I have been. There’s just been so much on my mind that it’s hard to focus on any one thing, and as a result, a lot goes out of my mind!

Yesterday was the final tryout for my Odyssey of the Mind teams and after much deliberation and careful consideration, I was able to narrow down the 18 to my final 14 students. It was hard. All the kids that tried out were great and could bring different things to the program, but I can only have up to 7 students per team, and I’m already insane to take on two teams by myself.

Today we had field day. It was a BLAST. I cannot tell you how much fun I had. At my old school, field day was for some students, while the others and teachers just lounged around and watched. Not so here. At OCS, students are put into buddy groups from grades 5-8. There were 11 stations at a park we went to, and the students got about 10 minutes playing each of the games. I was in charge of the Capture the Flag field. CRAZY! Our section of the field was soaked by yesterdays rain and near the trees. Students from every team slipped in the slick grass and fell into it, but they had so much fun. I laughed so hard and got great pictures for the yearbook. I also nearly lost my voice from yelling and cheering so hard the entire time we were there. Oh, and don’t worry, I got soaked too. The water went up my jeans before I realized what was happening. But the fun was worth it!

My book was chosen as the October read for the YA LGBT Books group on Goodreads.

This weekend I’ll be working at the consignment shop and since it’s a sidewalk sale, my boss is setting me up to sell my books. Exciting! That’s this Saturday and Sunday. Monday we have off and I promised my students I’d go to the Book Barn to get more traditional fantasy books. I agree – not enough.

Tuesday I have a book talk at CCSU after school from 4:30 until 6.

And then Friday I’ll be heading to P-Town for Women’s Week!

So much coming up, it’s really no wonder I’m losing my thoughts!

For REAL this time…

I sent my final read through to my editor. No, really. I swear. It’s the truth! D: I read through one last time to make sure there were no missing words and whatnot, and I’m glad I did. So it is now back in her capable hands, and I can rest easy for the next part.

The weather was fairly nice all weekend until today. It’s been pouring all day and I worked at my second (or is it third…?) job. It wasn’t bad, though. Even though it was rainy outside it was warm and cozy inside, with the lighting just right to make it charmingly cheerful. And the customers are pretty awesome, too. They always make things interesting.

Like! I learned something new today from a customer who collects these things. I know about tea cups. I enjoy them, to be honest. They’re pretty and it’s fun to sip tea out of them. They’re also very different, and I’ve always wanted a nice collection. Well the woman today explained to me what the larger plated tea sets are called. They’re “snack sets.” They have a space on the plate for the cup, like a traditional saucer, but they also are larger one once side so you can put cookies or small foods and such. How cool!

I would love to have a tea party one day with snack sets.

Maybe I’ll buy one next time I work…and take a picture for you all!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! (almost)

Christmas has come and gone, but New Year’s still looms before us. Do I have plans? Just sleep. And I’ll be hitting up the Book Barn on New Year’s Day. What better way to spend the start of the New Year than with thousands of used books? I can think of nothing more I’d rather do.

This week I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to work at a consignment shop. To be honest at first I thought I was losing my vacation, but it has been so fun! Not only do I get to poke through the store, but I get to help people find what they’re looking for and sell them wonderful, unique pieces. It’s an easy job, but, I must admit it’s hard not wanting to buy everything I see! Today I sold three pieces I wanted to buy for myself. ): Oh well… I did buy some gorgeous pins and a locket. Pictures later!

For Christmas I had a wonderful time with family. For the first time in my life I will NOT be lost on my first trip somewhere. My parents very thoughtfully bought me a GPS. I love it! I even use it when I don’t need it. And tonight my wonderful Bumblebee came home from the shop! He’s fixed! I get to drive him again, and that makes me VERY happy. Of course it cost a fortune to fix the damage from the tree, but I learned a valuable lesson: never park under a tree when it snows.

I’ve read a lot of books recently – most from the public library – and I will try to write some coherent reviews at some point in the near future. I need to better plan what I want to say. Everything on GoodReads just comes out like I rushed through, and that’s not what I want for my site.

So until next time! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas or other holiday, and Happy New Year! Let’s all hope 2012 is a great year!
